Build a career in medicine on a foundation in economics—and earn your baccalaureate and medical degrees in only seven years—in this innovative joint-degree program. Outstanding high school seniors can apply for dual admission to both TCNJ and our partner school, Rutgers’ New Jersey Medical School. Students accepted into the highly selective program spend three years at TCNJ, pursuing a bachelor of arts in economics, before beginning medical school after their junior year.
A rigorous curriculum and expert guidance from a dedicated medical careers advisory committee keep students on track to transfer seamlessly into New Jersey Medical School.
While at TCNJ, students enjoy a full college experience—and the peace of mind of guaranteed medical school admission. We encourage students to lead student organizations, volunteer in underserved communities, and study abroad in countries from Ghana to Germany. After all, broader experiences and deeper perspectives shape better physicians.
Strong Success via Traditional Route
Is the accelerated program the only pathway to medical school for economics majors? No—in fact, over the past five years, between 60 percent and 65 percent of TCNJ students who take the traditional route have been accepted into medical school, significantly above the national average of 45 percent.
