Kaleisha Mattis graduated from TCNJ’s School of Business in 2009 with a degree in accounting. Now nearly fifteen years into her professional career, Kaleisha works as a Senior Accountant for CenterSquare Investment Management and holds both a CPA certification and MBA to her name, both of which have equipped her to succeed in a challenging and competitive industry. At CenterSquare, Kaleisha is responsible for accounting and reporting on the various entities owned and managed by the company’s Private Equity group.
In her sophomore year at TCNJ, Kaleisha connected with alum Rebecca Machinga ‘92, who helped her land an internship at Withum Smith+Brown, where Kaleisha would intern throughout college and eventually be hired as a staff accountant upon graduation. “TCNJ directly led me to my start in public accounting,” she said. Although successful in procuring professional opportunities Kaleisha was still faced with the reality that she would need to succeed in an environment populated by people who did not look like her. Now overcoming those challenges, Kaleisha realizes “you will always fit in where you are meant to be.”
As an experienced student and professional, Kaleisha recommends TCNJ students take their time to determine what they want their careers to look like: “time is more precious than ever. So, make it count,” she advised. With that, however, Kaleisha also explained that “the world is already serious enough–it’s okay to take a minute and laugh.”
Kaleisha currently resides in Morrisville, Pennsylvania. For fun, she enjoys spending time with family, traveling with her sisters, binging television shows, completing DIY projects, and investing in rental properties.
