Now working as both an Associate Teacher within The School at Columbia University and a middle school athletics coach, Patrick Tso graduated from the TCNJ School of Business with a degree in management. In his time at TCNJ, Patrick was a CEO Peer Mentor in the School of Business, Orientation Leader, and Peer Advising Coach with the Center for Student Success. He was also a member of the Phi Alpha Delta fraternity and Club Ice Hockey team.
Patrick credits much of his early career success to the education he received through the School of Business: “I got my first job through the TCNJ School of Business,” he says. While there, Patrick learned how to “contribute to a community and the importance of networking… interview effectively, write a stellar resume, and connect with individuals on different levels,” skills he has already begun leveraging in pursuit of a Master’s degree in Curriculum and full-time position at Columbia’s Teachers College.
Professionally, Patrick has been able to apply his business experience at TCNJ directly to his work in the education field. “After working a business management role, I acquired some transferable skills that would be fitting in the academic environment. After some time, I transitioned to being a classroom teacher.” Patrick says working as an educator has been difficult but incredibly rewarding: “it has all been meaningful. I have learned and grown a lot since my undergraduate studies.”
As a successful TCNJ alum, Patrick advises current students to “get as involved as possible” and “be a part of the community. You are the architect of your life,” he adds, “design it how [you] please.”
Currently, Patrick lives in New York, New York, and enjoys traveling, skiing, hiking, and visiting parks around the city in his free time.
