Tamara Ibezim ’12 currently works as a Vice President, Compliance and Operational Risk Manager at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Hopewell, New Jersey, supporting the Chief Investment Office by providing oversight and risk management for their Due Diligence program. She is also responsible for overseeing the team’s Environment, Social, and Governance initiatives. Additionally, in the summer of 2022, Tamara will participate in the Black Venture Institute fellowship, a continuing education program based on curriculum sponsored by UC Berkeley and Salesforce Ventures, which assists experienced professionals in becoming angel and venture investors through education and networking opportunities. Upon completion of the fellowship, Tamara plans to continue pursuing an MBA at Rutgers University.

At Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Tamara engages front line business units to identify risk, advises on strategic initiatives, manages regulatory inquiries, conducts targeted and annual assessments, and implements monitoring and testing routines to identify gaps and ensure her company is well positioned to service its client and advisor population.

As an undergraduate student at TCNJ, Tamara kickstarted her professional career by obtaining a Bank of America internship through an on-campus interview facilitated by career services and the School of Business. During her internship, Tamara was mentored by upperclassmen working in other areas of the company and subsequently capped off the experience with a full-time offer. She then spent two years in a rotational program, which helped identify her interest in Risk and Compliance, a department in which she spent seven years before transitioning to her current position covering the Chief Investment Office. Since then, Tamara has regularly returned to the TCNJ School of Business, where she participates in alumni events, panel discussions, and is an active member of the Dean’s council.

During her time on campus, Tamara was a Bonner Scholar and member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. She names Cross-Cultural Management, Development Economics, and Strategic Management as her most influential classes, and says the best part of her TCNJ experience was the relationship-building she developed. “My immediate network is full of TCNJ alums doing incredible things,” she explained, “and we leverage each other when job opportunities, board seats, and other things come up–if you pour into the people around you, you will inevitably receive so much in return and that has been what has made me successful thus far.”

Tamara lives in Hamilton, New Jersey, and enjoys going to the beach with a good book/playlist, traveling, and spending time with family.
