Timothy C. Hearne ’78 is the President and CEO of United Way of Monmouth and Ocean Counties (UWMOC). Hearne studied for four years at TCNJ (then Trenton State College), earning a degree in accounting. After graduating, Hearne earned his CPA, then in 1985, he earned his MBA from Rutgers.
During his senior year at TCNJ, Hearne completed an internship with Deloitte (then Haskin and Sells) and was immediately offered a position. He stayed with Deloitte for seven years leaving as a manager and taking a new position with his biggest client at the time, New Jersey Natural Gas. During his 21 years at NJNG serving as Senior Vice President, Hearne began to explore the nonprofit world, serving on several nonprofit boards, including serving as Chair of the Jersey Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross, and President of the Brookdale Community College Foundation. His work with nonprofits inspired to take the job as President and CEO of UWMOC in 2007. “In my current position as President and CEO, I have overall responsibility for the total operations of the UWMOC mission of improving the lives of youth and their families in our region. “ Hearne works with the Board of Directors to implement overall strategies, including resource development, community impact, finance and administration, volunteer management, and marketing and communications.
Hearne credits his TCNJ School of Business education for providing a firm foundation in business management and finance. “To lead any organization the leader must have a strong understanding of the organization finances as well as other key business functions, such as human resources, marketing, technology, etc.” Hearne also thanks TCNJ for teaching him how to manage a work-life balance. To current students, Hearne says, “Your career will probably take different paths along the way. Follow your passions and have confidence in your ability to make a difference.”
Hearne currently resides in Holmdel, NJ with his wife of over 30 years. They have two sons; one works in the beer industry, and the other is studying visual effects in Los Angeles.
