Christoph Schoenbeck graduated from TCNJ in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in business management. He currently works for Major League Soccer as the Senior Manager, International Events for their marketing division, Soccer United Marketing. In this position, Christoph is responsible for the strategy, placement, and management of large scale soccer events, such as the Concacaf Gold Cup and the Liga MX/MLS inter-league competitions. He also manages relationships with sports commissions and city representatives, completes match agreements with stadium general managers, and oversees operational execution. Christoph works with international soccer federations and governing bodies, like Concacaf and US Soccer, on a daily basis.
Without a specific program in sports business, Christoph focused on broad business perspectives and understanding how to best work with and lead people. “Touting my management major in interviews, I was able to market myself and obtain internships during college with a basketball academy, the Meadowlands Sports Complex, and New York Red Bulls. No matter what the industry, companies want hungry, teachable individuals with people and project management skills.”
When asked to offer advice to current students, Christoph emphasized the importance of being your own advocate: “Make your own luck and keep in mind you never know who might be watching you…” This is certainly true for Christoph who, after graduating, took a job handing out winter coats to security staff at MetLife Stadium where he made many of the important business contacts that got him to where he is today. Fun fact: Christoph played on the TCNJ men’s basketball team for four years and never had any interest in soccer! Christoph lives in Hoboken and works in New York City.
