Shawn Syed ’16 recently presented research at the Academy of Legal Studies in Business (ALSB) Conference in Savannah, Georgia. Syed is currently attending William & Mary Law School. His presentation was titled, “Free Speech, Campaign Finance, and a Plea for Reform.”
Syed worked with Dr. Nancy Lasher on his research, which focused on campaign finance reform, specifically how the Supreme Court has made decisions, the impact of lobbying, and reconsidering a business’s role in society.
The ALSB conference experience was unique and refreshing. It was a pleasure to be in an arena of academics all passionate about their fields. I was one of the only students there, if not the only. Being less experienced than everyone else at the conference afforded me the opportunity to soak up knowledge on a wide spectrum. Our presentation went over very well and other presentations ranged from sports law to business ethics and everything in between. Dr. Lasher, Professor Monseau, and Professor Domingo of TCNJ helped make the week before law school a worthwhile experience and of course none of it would have been possible if the School of Business was not supporting me.
