2016 Personal Finance Panel

Pete SimonsPete Simons ’98 hosted the Personal Finance Panel for the 6th consecutive year, closing out the 3rd Thursday Alumni Panel Program, which is sponsored by the Dean’s Advisory Council. Pete — who currently works as a Staff Accountant at the US Securities and Exchange Commission Philadelphia Regional Office — stressed the value of the program for a 22 year old college grad going into the work force, learning how to save money to build and manage wealth.

The panelists cautioned…

  • the biggest mistake people make when starting out is not budgeting
  • you should always have a 6 month cushion (in savings), in the event of unemployment
  • life insurance is income protection for your survivors
  • take advantage of employer matching programs
  • build credit now, and check credit rating for accuracy
  • “Be Fearful When Others Are Greedy and Greedy When Others Are Fearful”  ~ Warren Buffett
