School of Business Big Winners at Pi Sigma Epsilon 2017 National Convention

The College of New Jersey’s (TCNJ) Pi Sigma Epsilon (PSE) chapter, Zeta Zeta, recently attended the organization’s National Convention in St. Louis, Missouri with faculty advisor Dr. Alfred Pelham. At the convention, the top 60 national PSE chapters competed for top prizes in categories, such as project development, recruitment, and an overall sales competition. This year, Zeta Zeta was a finalist in six national awards: Top Silver Chapter, Top PSE Salesperson (Allissa Kolczynski ‘17), Whan Challenger (Connor Hubler ‘17), President’s Merit Award (Chrystalla Socratous), Top Alumni Advisor (Matt Napoli) and Top Chapter Recruitment Program. After presentations in front of corporate judge panels, senior Allissa Kolczynski came out on top. Kolczynski was named the 2016-2017 Top PSE Salesperson in the nation.

Zeta Zeta also had nine students compete against 120 other competitors in the sales competition, a 12-minute role play with corporate sponsors acting as judges. Across two days of multiple rounds of competition, seniors Hubler and Kolczynski finished amongst the top ten sales students in the nation. Sophomore Joe Sanchez said, “This was my first year attending Nationals and it was an awesome experience! It was great growing professionally and personally while making new friends from across the nation.”

In addition to the sales competition, TCNJ had representatives in the National Speakers Competition and Marketing Case Challenge. Hubler and Kolczynski also took home scholarships for their work in academics, developing their chapter’s members, and community involvement. Zeta Zeta’s former President, Chrystalla Socratous, said, “This was my third year attending Nationals and it’s always exciting meeting new competitors, as well as corporate representatives, that share the same passion for growth.”

Zeta Zeta and Dr. Pelham have been attending PSE National Conventions for eight years.

“It was rewarding to work with the students as they rehearsed for the sales, marketing plan, best chapter, top salesperson, and scholarship competitions. Their hard work and dedication was rewarded with the top salesperson award, two top ten finalists in the sales competition, and two scholarships. It was also rewarding to act as a buyer for the sales competition and a judge for the marketing competition,” said PSE faculty advisor Dr. Pelham. “Our business school should be very proud of our top caliber students who represent us so well and enhance our reputation with employers and other universities.”
